I really like using pet nail grinders for my dogs nails. Their great, and not nearly as scary as a regular nail trimmer. I am always worried I might cut too far, but with a nail grinder, it is easier to avoid the quick of the nail. (Be careful as your Havanese gets longer fur to keep the fur pulled back while trimming the nail. Otherwise the fur could get twirled up in the grinder.)

You always want to walk your Havanese with a harness since it is much safer and prevents injury of their delicate trachea, etc. My favorite vest is the Puppia Harness Soft B Vest. Milo at 12 pounds wears a Large, Hazel at 9 pounds fits a medium. Your puppy should fit a small when it's time to go home.

With a new puppy in the house-training process, you are bound to have some accidents. When this happens, thoroughly clean the area with a cleaner that breaks down enzymes. Normal household cleaners will NOT work. When all traces of his previous accident are not removed -his powerful sense of smell will tell him that's a spot to go to again. Toy breeds are prone to tooth decay unlike other larger breeds. (If you've had a large breed dog in the past, you may have never had to worry too much about their teeth) However, toy breeds need to have their teeth cleaned. This is not an old age issue. By the age of three they can already have gum disease if their teeth have not been properly cared for. If you brush and keep your dogs teeth clean and healthy you will avoid the big dental bills and problems later on.

I love to leave my dogs with a puzzle whenever I have to run to the store or leave them on their own. It's a great way to keep them busy instead of staring out the window waiting for my return! Break up their treats into small pieces and fill the puzzles with them.

I love to have a play area set up where I know a puppy can be safe when I have to run to the grocery store, etc. I make one end a potty area with a potty pad, and the other end has toys, food, water, and puppy's bed. My favorite play yard is the toddler version (I know they have one with a doggy door, but while your pup is young you certainly need the doggy door locked to keep puppy safe if you have choose that option):

This is another great shampoo that I love. It is a 2 in 1 combo that has conditioner, but it is even better when you use it with the conditioner rinse that I recommend also, as an extra step. I really like the Lavender Mint scent too.

The 30 inch is the best size to buy. I do not recommend any smaller. Even my smallest 8 lb Havanese need the 30 inch crate to actually be able to stretch out. Any smaller is too small. Don't worry, this crate comes with a handy divider that will make it smaller for tiny puppies.
